ABHIMANYU`POV
I felt someone's hand under my arm and another hand on my abs , but my head was pounding like hell. I heard someone continuously knocking on my door. I slowly removed the hand and turned to the other side, seeing Shivnya sleeping peacefully, her hair covering her face. I gently moved her hair aside, revealing her serene, baby-like face.
Avni was still banging on the door, which woke Shivnya up. "Bhaiiii, bhaiiii, uthiye, maa bula rahi hai aapko!" Avni called out.
I watched as Shivnya rubbed her eyes and yawned like a baby. I didn't want to shout, but if I didn't, Avni would surely barge into my room. "Haan, tum jao, hum aa rahe hain," I said loudly.
( you go i am coming )
Shivnya looked at me and said, "Abhimanyu..."
"Shittt... Shitttt!" she exclaimed, getting off the bed furiously.
"Shivnya, listen," I tried to stop her, but she was quick. She left the room, and Avni saw her leaving. Avni smirked and said, "Bhai, aap toh..."
"Avni, keep quiet," I said and went to my room.
SHIVNYA`POV
I woke up feeling well-rested for the first time in years. I rubbed my eyes and yawned, then realized I had slept next to Abhimanyu. Panic set in. How could I do that? And how did I fall asleep without taking my meds? I quickly ran to my room, splashing water on my face to calm my nerves.
I noticed the mehndi on my hands and feet had darkened to a deep maroon shade. Ignoring it, I splashed more water on my face and wiped it dry. Sanj came in, informing me that everyone was calling me downstairs.
I quickly changed clothes, calmed myself, and went to the hall. There, I saw Abhimanyu and Bhai getting scolded by their moms.
AUTHOR`S POV
"Abhimanyu, itne bade ho gaye ho tum. Tumhe dhyaan rakhna chahiye," Ridhimaa scolded him, and he glanced at Shivnya standing in a corner.
( Abhimanyu, you’ve grown up so much. You need to take care of yourself )
"Aarav, tumhari toh shaadi bhi ho gayi. Tumhe apni responsibility ka dhyaan dena chahiye," Yuvantika shouted.
( Aarav, you're married now. You should take responsibility )
"Bechari bachiyan tumhe raat ko dhoond kar layi hain," Asha added.
( The poor girls had to find you last night )
"Sorry, maa. Sorry, dadi," both of them said.
"Humse maafi mat maango. Apni biwi se maango," Dadi instructed, and both of them stood up, glancing at their fathers, who were next to get scolded by their mothers. They laughed at their fathers' predicament.
( Don’t apologize to us. Apologize to your wives )
"Ranveer, aapne zimmedaari li thi na?" Ridhimaa asked.
( Ranveer, you took responsibility, didn’t you )
"Li toh thi, lekin inki zimmedaari lene ka koi fayda nahi. Khud hi poore nashe mein the," Yuvantika replied showing eyes to her husband.
( They did, but there’s no point in taking responsibility for him. He was drunk himself )
"Sorry, Ridhimaa." "Sorry, Yuvantika," both fathers apologized.
"Chaliye, nashta kar lijiye. Phir haldi bhi hai," Ridhimaa said defeatedly.
( Come on, have breakfast. We still have the haldi ceremony )
"Maa, hum sab bachon ka khana garden mein laga dijiye," Tanmay said mischievously.
( Mom, please set our food in the garden )
But why?" Ridhimaa asked, confused
"Aree, please na," he pleaded, and Ridhimaa agreed, instructing the servant to arrange the table.
Everyone sat in a circle. Abhimanyu was sitting next to Shivnya, trying to talk to her, but she was ignoring him.
"Bhai, waise aapki kal ki raat kaisi rahi?" Tanmay asked, and Avni glared at him, shouting, "Tanmay!"
( Bro, by the way, how was your night last night? )
"Aree, di bata rahi thi kaise aap bhabhi ko biwi biwi karke bula rahe the aur unse chipke hue the," he said with a chuckle, and Abhimanyu felt ashamed. Everyone looked at him, except Shivnya, who was glaring at Avni.
( Oh, diii was telling me how you kept calling bhabhi 'wife, wife' and clinging to her )
"Avni!" Shivnya exclaimed
"Shivnya, I didn’t tell him. I was talking to Aarav about last night, and Tanmay overheard everything," Avni explained
"Bhai, waise aap ko kiss mili?" Tanmay asked, making Shivnya choke on her food.
( Bro, did you get a kiss though?? )
Abhimanyu quickly handed her a glass of water and rubbed her back. She drank the water and he stood up, running after Tanmay.
"Tanmay, ruk. Tujhe batata hoon," he said, catching him and warning, "Teri is mahine ki pocket money cut. Aur agar phir se yeh baat boli ya kisi aur ko bataya toh credit card bhi block karwa dunga."
( Tanmay, stop. I’ll show you," he said, catching him and warning, "This month’s pocket money is cut. And if you mention this again or tell anyone, I’ll block your credit card too. )
" Bhai, you can’t do that," Tanmay protested
"Agar yeh baat tune phir se boli ya kisi aur ko batayi toh dekhna..." Abhimanyu warned him.
( If you say this again or tell anyone, just wait and watch then....)
"No, bhaiii. I won’t say anything like that," Tanmay promised.
Both returned to the breakfast table, but Shivnya was heading back to her room. Noticing this, Abhimanyu followed her. He was confused about how they ended up sleeping together and felt ashamed about the kiss. He tried to start a conversation.
"Shivnya, sunno... Shivnya, sunno... Ek baar humaari baat toh sun lo," he pleaded, but she didn't even turn around.
( Shivnya, listen... Shivnya, please... Just hear me out once )
The cousins were singing, and all the elders were laughing.
" Main toh joru ka gulam banke rahunga "
they teased
( I’m going to be a slave to my wife now )
Ignoring them, Abhimanyu tried to approach Shivnya again, but his mother interrupted.
"Aree, beta, bas aaj ki baat hai. Uske baad toh Shivnya aapki hi hai. Jaiye, kapde change karke aaiye. Haldi ki rasam bhi toh karni hai," she said.
( Oh, beta , it’s just for today. After that, Shivnya will be yours. Go, change your clothes. We still have the haldi ceremony to do )
"But mom," he tried to protest
"Jaiye, beta," she insisted.
( Go, son )
Both got ready and took their seats for the haldi ceremony. One by one, everyone applied the haldi paste on their faces. Everyone was happy and enjoying themselves, but when it was her mom, dad, Dadaji, Dadi, Kunal, and Janvi's turn, Shivnya refused. She refused to let them apply haldi.
All the younger ones were applying the mehndi. When Aarav's turn came, he kneeled before her, saying, "Shiviii... Sorry, Shivu... Apne bhai ko ek mauka de do. Humein sach mein..."
( Shiviii... Sorry, Shivu... Give your brother one more chance. I really... )
"Bhai, don’t say that," she said and hugged him tightly.
"Princess, I am really sorry. I couldn’t protect you," he said, tears welling up in everyone’s eyes, though the younger ones were confused.
"Bhai," she said, a tear escaping her eye. He wiped it away and applied the haldi.
"Now, no more crying. Enjoy your day," he said, seating her next to Abhimanyu. Aarav took more paste and applied haldi to Abhimanyu's face, saying, "Meri behen ka dhyan rakhna."
( Take care of my sister.)
"Of course, saale," Abhimanyu replied, earning glares from everyone. "Saaleshab," he corrected.
( Of course, brother-in-law,
Dear brother-in-law,)
The younger ones tried to play with the haldi, but the ladies refused, reminding them they were already late and needed to get ready for the wedding. They sent everyone to their rooms.
Shivnya was heading to her room when Abhimanyu sneaked up behind her and applied haldi to her cheeks.
"Biwi ji, aap ki narazgi bilkul jayaz hai, par agar humne hi haldi nahi lagayi toh haldi kaise poori hogi?" he said, standing with crossed arms and a smirk.
( Wifey, your anger is completely justified, but if I don’t apply the haldi, how will the ceremony be complete? )
She approached him, saying, "Kyun, is baar apne galti se haldi toh nahi lagayi yaa aapko Yuvraj ne dare diya tha?"
( What, this time it wasn’t by mistake? Or did Yuvraj dare you again? )
Feeling guilty, Abhimanyu replied, " Shivnya, don’t say that " he said, feeling guilty.
But it was in vain; Shivnya walked away, leaving him standing there, defeated. Abhimanyu watched as she disappeared into her room. He sighed deeply, knowing he had hurt her and unsure how to make it right.
~~~~
Shivnya was getting ready in her room. She removed her clothes, revealing the healed stitches on her back and arm, now just scars. The doctor had allowed makeup to cover them. Barely covering her upper body with foundation and concealer, she ensured the marks were invisible. After that, the makeup artists came and worked their magic. She was soon ready in her attire, looking stunning for the ceremony.
All the ladies, except her mother and grandmother, came to compliment her. Shivnya sat alone in her room as everyone else was busy with the wedding preparations. Her grandmother, Madhu, entered and said, "Now that you're getting married, you need to remove Aayansh and Divit from the company."
"Are you out of your mind?" Shivnya replied in disbelief, turning to face her.
"Do as much as you're told," Madhu said sternly.
"And who are you to tell me what to do?" Shivnya asked with a smirk.
"You will remove them from the company and sever all ties with this family, including your brother," Madhu announced.
Shivnya, furious, stepped closer and asked, "What do you think you're saying? Are you in your right mind?"
"I'm completely sane. Because of you, we lost our daughter, our heir. We almost lost my husband, and let's not forget that boy who died because of you. Do you know why we kept you away from home? You are a curse, a dark stain on this family," Madhu said with a tone of disgust.
"Shut up!" Shivnya shouted in rage, realizing the truth in her grandmother's words. All the deaths were somehow connected to her. She leaned on a chair for support.
"That's why I'm telling you to stay away from the children in this family. Forget you have a family here, forget you have siblings, or else," Madhu warned.
"Or else what? You can't do anything to them," Shivnya roared.
"True, we won't harm them. We'll just tell them about your childhood," Madhu said with an evil smile.
"You swore you wouldn't do that," Shivnya turned around and shouted.
"I don't recall making any such promise," Madhu smirked.
"I've never seen a worse woman than you," Shivnya said in a tone of disgust.
"And we've never seen someone as cursed as you. Leave our children's lives today, on your wedding day, or we'll reveal your dark secrets," Madhu said with venom and left the room.
Shivnya was devastated. She realized she was the reason for the suffering of everyone she loved. Now, she was falling in love again. Would she be the cause of his death too? Would her bad luck destroy him as well? Would she never be able to find love? Her anxiety and panic peaked; she was shivering badly. She sat on the floor, trying to calm herself. She looked for her anxiety tablets but realized they were with Barley, who was busy with the preparations.
Kamini knocked on the door. Shivnya stood up, covering her face with a veil to hide her tear-stained face.
"Beta, let's go," Kamini said. Sanj and Kamini escorted her to the mandap. Her slow steps and shivering made Kamini think she was just nervous about the wedding.
ABHIMANYU`S POV
As I entered the hall, her mother stopped me to perform my aarti. She tried to pull my nose, a traditional gesture, but my cousins kept pulling me backward, making it difficult for her. After a few attempts, she finally managed to pull my nose and allowed me to enter the hall. I proceeded to the mandap with my sword, my heart pounding with excitement and nerves. I took my seat as the pandit ji began chanting the mantras. After a while, he said, "Dulhan ko bula lijiye." My heart started to race at the thought of seeing my love in her wedding attire. I waited with bated breath as her chachi and cousin went to bring her.
( call the bride )
She walked down the aisle in her dark maroon lehenga, a veil covering her face. She looked like an angel made for this devil. How could she look so beautiful? Her jewelry and clothes seemed perfectly designed just for her, my wife. But I couldn't see her face, and that saddened me. As I watched her walk, I noticed something off. Her steps were small and steady, her body shivering slightly. It made me feel like something was wrong. Was she not ready for the marriage? Yet, during the recent functions, she seemed happy. But now, seeing her like this, I felt a sense of unease. This marriage was more important to her than to me because it meant I could protect her from that scoundrel.
I stood up and approached her, smiling. Her eyes were downcast, and she didn't look at me. I extended my hand to help her ascend the mandap. She took my hand, and I helped her with her lehenga. For the first time, I felt her hand shivering. She gripped my hand tightly, and I was shocked. I guided her to her seat on the mandap, still confused about her behavior. I wanted to know what was wrong but knew this wasn't the right time or place. I wanted to stop everything and ask her what had happened to make her like this.
Her legs were shaking, her breaths uneven, and her shivering increased. I tried to talk to her, but she didn't respond. I even held her hand, trying to console her, but it had no effect. The pandit ji continued chanting the mantras and when he asked for her hand, she didn't respond. I leaned close to her ear and whispered, "Shivnya, pandit ji aapko bula rahe hain."
( shivnya the preist is calling you )
She looked at me, and through her veil, I could see her eyes filled with tears. She seemed to come back to consciousness and stood up,
shouting,
"Main ye shaadi nahi karungi!
"Main ye shaadi nahi karungi!"
( I won't marry you )
The hall fell silent, and all eyes turned towards us. Her voice echoed through the hall, each word a dagger to my heart. I could see the fear and determination in her eyes, and it tore me apart to witness her anguish. I felt a mix of confusion, hurt, and a desperate need to protect her. I wanted to hold her, to tell her everything would be okay, but at that moment, I was powerless. The realization that something had shattered her resolve was unbearable.
